India enjoyed a highly successful Day 5 at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, winning six medals across athletics and weightlifting to take its overall medal tally to 10.

Sharmila Dhankar was the star player of the day to grab India’s second gold in the F57 final in women’s Para shot put. She excelled and contributed to yet another podium finish for India, and enhanced the nation’s overall ranking.

One more silver medal was won by India as well. Gyaneshwari Yadav won the silver medal in women’s 53kg weightlifting and Valluri Ajaya Babu was the silver medalist in the men’s 79kg weightlifting event. Sarvesh Anil Kushare picked up another silver with an impressive performance in the high jump in the men’s event in the final.

The country took one more medal in Commonwealth, both bronze, by winning in two other disciplines. Bindyarani Devi won the third position in the women’s 58kg weightlifting while Shilpa K. Shyla’s fourth position in the women’s para shot put F57 later got upgraded to a bronze for India’s double podium finish in the event.

Meanwhile, India’s boxers were lucky to have a fruitful day as their Sachin Siwach (60kg) and Ankush Panghal (80kg) have advanced to the quarter-finals while Sakshi Chaudhary (women’s 51kg) has bookmarked the country’s hope of claiming a medal in the sport.

India had bagged a total of 10 medals including two gold, five silver and three bronze medals at the end of Day 5. The number of medals is likely to be further enhanced with at least one additional medal now guaranteed in boxing.

The six medals were India’s highest tally in the Games so far which helped build the confidence further in the campaign in Glasgow and added to their track record.
