The Kolkata unit of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has mobilised people across the country for protest rallies over the alleged paper leak in the NEET-UG 2026 and police action in the national capital, has yet to receive permission to hold a protest march at the event on July 24 in the city.
In a statement, CJP member Dedipya Ganguly said it has two emails to the Kolkata Police for permission to hold a peaceful demonstration from Sealdah to Dharmatala (Esplanade) but has so far not been granted by them.
The Special Branch had contacted the organisation for initial enquiries on the proposed march but there was no further communication after that, Ganguly said.
The CJP said it will back the protest that’s led by students even if it’ll be denied permission.
The Students’ Federation of India (SFI), meanwhile, has also stated its intention to call a protest march to call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in response to the NEET paper leak controversy as well as police actions during the demonstrative Sansad Chalo protest in Delhi in July.
The organisation has written to the Kolkata Police regarding its gathering, and will go ahead with it as long as it does not get permission, Debanjan Dey, president of the SFI state-level unit, said.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Police has come out with a different Section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in BBD Bagh and College Street today for two months.
Reacting to this, BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar stated that stringent action will be taken against the people who will try to create violence or agitation in West Bengal in the name of protest.
