Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sharply slammed Delhi University (DU) on its advisory that instructed students and staffers to avoid visiting Jantar Mantar, where raging protests continue.
He was disturbed by the notification, raising doubts on the university’s action, contending that it was jeopardizing students’ democratic right.
“What did you have to say to students for their exercising their democratic rights? Please note, you are the ones that will be held accountable when the time comes,” Gandhi wrote in a post on social media.
Advisory to students of the university warned that anyone caught to be in an unlawful assembly could face legal action as the Supreme Court of India has already outlined guidelines for the demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
DU also warned that such activities may create students’ personal safety issues and hinder their academic growth and career prospects.
Furthermore, the university warned students not to fall for fake and misleading posts on social networks, reminding them to be vigilant and lawful.
The advisory comes after the ongoing protest against paper-leak in the NEET-UG 2026 and demand for education reforms by protester group, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), in the Capital.
Rahul Gandhi on Thursday night later paid a visit to Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi in honour of students who apparently died in a “suicide attempt” after the NEET controversy and joined leaders of the INDIA bloc.
The opposition leaders also voiced their sympathy for protesters who were said to be hurt when they got into clashes with police in the capital city.
