India’s campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 gathers momentum on Day 2, with Olympic champion Mirabai Chanu leading the country’s medal hopes in weightlifting.
Indian fans will be eagerly keeping an eye on Chanu as she seeks to retain her Commonwealth title and ensure one of India’s first medals from the Games.
The day is also packed, with sport on the go in many sports. However, Swimmer Srihari Natraj will kick off his campaign with the backstroke heats and India’s Lawn Bowls teams will aim to build upon their historic win at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
In boxing several upcoming Indian stars will get into the ring with a dream to make it to the medal table with the gymnastics team stepping into the tournament, where the team will start the qualification round targeting to advance to the medal table.
Indian coaches have been working hard over the past four years for the athletes to compete in the Games of the Glasgow Olympics, with veteran and fresh faces set to do big roles during the performance.
Performance in the first days may give the entire bunch of soldiers the confidence boost and make a significant difference in the overall medals tally.
Young athletes with their first experience of competing at the Commonwealth Games will also get the chance to take centre stage on the international stage, as led by older teammates who have experience of competing at multi-sport events.
The day will be one of the busiest and most important of the year for India with competitions being held in numerous disciplines which include weightlifting, swimming, boxing, gymnastics and lawn bowling where the country is looking to make a strong mark at the very beginning of competition.
