Balamukund Soni, the MP councillor in charge of the gas pipeline area, has been named an accused in the Avantika gas pipeline blast case, according to the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Development occurred at the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) demanding stringent steps over the blast and accountability of the event.
The petitioner, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ritesh Inani, said that he personally appeared before the High Court to give information about the status of the investigation.
In the course of the court’s proceedings, the ACP informed the court that after an in-depth investigation, the police had established enough grounds against Balamukund Soni as the regional councillor and after the fact, he was formally summoned as an accused in the case.
The police also told the High Court that the probe is going on legally and impartially and action is being taken against all those who are guilty of causing the explosion.
The PIL sought transparency in the investigation of the high-profile case and was filed to hold the administration responsible for the gas pipeline blast that had caused much concern over public safety and administrative accountability.
The High Court has given the investigation a check, and the police have kept on looking into all aspects of the case. Further investigation is underway, and officials said more action will be taken if more evidence exists against any other people involved in the incident, officials told the court.
