New Delhi: India registered the lowest Coronavirus daily rise in infections after 50 days. The infective count dropped to 1,53,396 on Sunday. The Union Health Ministry confirmed 20,22,055 active individuals across the country. However, the mortality count spiked to 3,29,128 after 3,130 new deaths were reported.

Addressing the nation through the radio show, ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi stated that India ramped up production of medical oxygen from 900 metric tons earlier to 9,500 tons.

As the country witnessed a dip in its infected count, several states across the country have planned to relax COVID curbs considerately.

On 28 May, CM Kejriwal announced a ‘gradual unlocking’ of the national capital beginning with the daily wage industries.  Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday cautioned against letting the guards down even as the state sees a drop in infections. “I don’t know when and what date the third wave will come. So we should not let our guard down,” he said. The state has extended the restrictions till June 15.

Meanwhile, UP also decided to relax restrictions in districts with less than 600 active Coronavirus cases.  Officials at Jammu and  Kashmir authorities have decided to partially relax curbs permitting public transport operations on alternate days with 50% capacity. However, night curfew and weekend curfew are still in place.

On the vaccination front, India has successfully vaccinated 21,20,66,614 citizens under the mega inoculation drive.
