In a major crackdown against interstate Ganja smuggling, Jashpur police busted two rackets seizing a total of 552.160 kgs of ganja and three vehicles used in the smuggling. The combined value of the seized contraband from the two rackets is said to be Rs1.20 crore. Two arrests have been made during the operation while two others identified as drivers managed to escape.

Under Operation Aaghat led by Surguja Range Inspector General Deepak Kumar Jha acting on an intelligence deployed a joint team of cyber cell and police personnel and set up checkpoints at Kunkuri, Bagicha and Narayanpur.

In the first case, 311 kg of the contraband and an Innova car was seized. The contraband valued at Rs 46.70 lakh, officials said.

While the second seizure was done in the Bagicha police station area, in which 2 vehicles along with nearly 240 kgs of the contraband was seized.

The accused remanded under judicial custody have been identified as Sachindra Raut and Mohammed Sameer both residents of Orissa. Case has been registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychopathic substances Act.

Meanwhile, in a press briefing, SSP Dr Lal Umed Singh has said that a search operation has been launched for the absconding drivers.
