Former T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav is on the radar for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to a new report, if he maintains his form in domestic cricket.

This follows a lackluster campaign by Shreyas Iyer’s side in the shortest format of the game for India. Since taking over the leadership following India’s T20 World Cup triumph, Shreyas has endured a difficult start, with India losing six of their seven T20Is against Ireland and England, while one match ended without a result due to rain.

The poor performances have come under more critical evaluation of both captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Gautam Gambhir, where some discussion is being had on the need to change this tandem.

Interestingly, after the World Cup, Suryakumar has not been ruled out of the Indian squad, according to a report citing a BCCI source. The board is convinced he needs to perform well in domestic cricket to return to the first-class squad.

He is not part of the short list for that match right now, however Suryakumar Yadav will be looked at once more he keeps up scoring runs in domestic cricket continues to be for sure, the source said.

Suryakumar wasn’t fit to be the captain of India in T20I cricket after his downfall in IPL cricket and international formats. The selectors then gave the task of leading the team to Shreyas Iyer in hopes of ushering in a new generation.

If Suryakumar shines in domestic cricket with India in a slump, it could be a big talking point for the Indian cricket team when he is in action again.
