Asia’s largest aerospace and defence exhibition Aero India 2027 has been organized at Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru from February 8 to 12, in its sixteenth edition. Officials also said that they expect the upcoming event to be the largest in the history of the event, and ramp up India’s plans for becoming a defense goods exporting nation in the world.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has been appointed as the nodal organisation for the airshow by the Ministry of Defence’s Department of Defence Production and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) will be given operational support for the airshow. It will witness the presence of some of the best defence industry players of India and rest of the world and foster fresh partnerships and go-ahead to promote tailor-made military technologies that are indigenous to the Indian industry.
Aero India comes at a time when India is still witnessing a record growth in the defence manufacturing sector. Defence production jumped by 15.6 per cent from the earlier year to cross ₹1.78 lakh crore in 2025-26, twice the production in 2020-21, according to official data. According to the government’s ambitious target, it aims to create a turnover of ₹3 lakh crore in defence manufacturing and ₹50,000 crore in defence exports by 2029-30.
India has also witnessed an unprecedented defence trade of ₹38,424 crore during FY 2025-26, complementing various defence goods including missiles, artillery systems, armoured vehicles, defence electronics and surveillance equipment, and ammunition. Further, recent deals for BrahMos cruise missiles, as well as Astra air-to-air missiles being supplied to Indonesia, are expected to further bolster India’s presence around the world in the field of defence.
The ongoing policy reforms, easier export approval and streamlined licensing procedures have already made India more competitive and made its defence manufacturing industry more robust, officials said.
