Gautam Gambhir is surely one of the most successful Head Coach for the Indian team. He has helped India to win not just one but two ICC trophies, which were the Champions Trophy 2025 and the T20 World Cup 2026. Despite his dominance in the ICC events, he has not been able to gain the trust of the fans.

Under his tenure, the Indian team has received various unwanted records, which includes:

Winless in ODI Calendar Year

One of the most unwanted records which was first achieved under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir came shortly after his appointment. India went on a tour of Sri Lanka, and also played against them for a three match ODI series. Unfortunately, the Indian team was able to win none of them, marking the first time India went undefeated in the calendar year in ODIs.

First ever Home Series Whitewash

The Indian team was considered a lot dominant when the matches were in India. Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the Indian team had an unbeaten streak in home series for 12 years. But that streak also came to an end with Gautam Gambhir as the Head Coach. India lost its series against New Zealand, which was not just a loss but a whitewash.

Lowest Total at Home

Another unwanted record which the Indian team made was having the lowest total at home. Against New Zealand, India registered a total of just 46 runs in its first innings in the Test match at Chinnaswamy.

Proteas Dominance

Even against South Africa, the Indian team struggled to secure a series win at home. It was a challenging time in the series against the Proteas in October 2025, where India lost both games, losing one of them by a huge margin. This was India’s first series loss against them at home in 25 years.

First Loss to Ireland

Another year, another record. Indian team also registered its first ever T20I loss against Ireland, in a series which took place in June. But this was not just a one match loss, it turned out to be a series loss for the Indian team.
