The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is launched in Greece, the latest sign that India’s digital payments revolution is rolling on the international stage.

With the inclusion of Greece, UPI transactions are enabled among 10 countries, eliminating the need for cash or international card payments while travelling abroad, making it convenient for Indian travellers.

This expansion falls under India’s plan to make the UPI payment system globally accepted by collaborating with other financial institutions and payment service providers across the nation.

Supported mobile apps use UPI for fast, safe and real-time payments directly from their bank account. The platform became one of the biggest digital payment platforms in the world and expanding its use in international markets.

UPI integration will make payments more convenient and accessible for Indian tourists, students, and business travellers in Greece, ensuring a simplified experience for the visitors.

In recent years, India has been actively promoting UPI’s global reach to bolster the growth of cross-border digital transactions and improve financial connectivity for overseas travellers.
