After an incredible stretch for Lionel Messi at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, the Spanish international has voiced his own thoughts on what his own opinion is about his potential appearance in the near future for the 2030 edition of the World Cup, which is to be hosted in Qatar.
The Argentina captain has had a sensational start to the tournament, picking up all five Argentina goals in his first two games. Messi would then go on to score a hat trick from the Algerian fingers and then two times from the Austrian ones, bringing his World Cup-earned tally to 18, the most in the tournament’s history.
Messi, who is in the sixth FIFA World Cup, once again focused point of Argentina. The 38-year-old has assisted the defending champions to progress after their Group J stuns on the scoreboard this season.
Of course, people have wondered whether Messi will be playing at the World Cup which is due to be played in Spain, Portugal & Morocco in 2030 when Messi is 42 years old. But the Argentine superstar couldn’t look far into the future.
To the reporters, Messi explained that his current priority is to enjoy playing football and help the team. He said he’ll play as long as he’s physically fit and can be useful to his fellow team members on the floor.
He wasn’t ruling out a possible appearance, but Messi noted that the time is simply too early to make any decision for the 2030 tournament. So he is still focused on defending his title in the upcoming 2026 World Cup, which is Argentina’s right, as long as he can get it done.
