The shocking triple murder in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district has stunned the world, leaving behind a bereaved family who lost their elder brother, his wife and their 3-year-old nephew while they were sleeping inside their house.
The crime happened around 3 am Monday in the Balua village within the jurisdiction of the police station in Bansgaon town, almost 50 kilometres from Gorakhpur city. It was revealed that the victims were accused’s brother Amit Gupta, his wife Rajnala Gupta and their young son, Reyansh.
The police stated that the family members were sleeping in one room at the apartment when the teen attacked them with a sharp object. The accused father and mother were sleeping in another room of the house when the incident happened, it is said.
When the boy’s dad checked on him after hearing screaming they three victims were found on the floor in a pile of blood inside the room, investigators said. He reportedly saw his younger son coming out of the room with the gun. Before police were notified of the crime, neighbours had been alerted.
Senior officers of police arrived and started an investigation. An upstairs room was later occupied by the teen, which is believed to be where the blood-soaked gun was found during the arrest.
Police have filed a case on the complaint of the victims father. The coroners’ office has received the bodies for post-mortems and investigators are working on the scene to look for clues.
Unfortunately, the exact motive of the murders is not yet known, says SP (South) Dinesh Puri. Initial investigators indicate that a disagreement over a family business’s establishment may have contributed to the deadly attack, however.
The investigation is ongoing and authorities are still asking the juvenile questions.
