Like many other things, the BCCI has been dead silent about the future of two stalwarts of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who will be part of the ODI World Cup 2027.
Rumours focusing on the duo’s run into the next World Cup have grown stronger in recent months since both the veterans have retired from Tests and T20Is, while they sit on the bench in ODI coming out for India in the next World Cup. Saikia, however, said that future course of the team is a part of internal discussions.
The selectors, the committee, coaching staff and players are holding on-going discussions to plan the future, the BCCI secretary said. He said that there was no need for special meetings as evaluation already is in action.
Saikia added that he would not comment on the individual players while adding that conversations are being held at a strategic level within the board and would not like to discuss it with the outside world in public. His words follow those of the previous line of duty selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar and their head coach Gautam Gambhir who had played it safe with regards to the two in the World Cup.
Both former captains are now bent upon pursuing their ODI careers in the near future and preparing for their campaign towards the 2027 World Cup. But the BCCI’s latest comments have been issued with no definitive decision having been arrived at yet, with two of the world’s modern era’s biggest stars of Indian cricket continuing to be up for debate.
