The Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) from Jeron Khalsa Municipal Council, Madhya Pradesh’s Niwari district has been placed under suspension over allegations of negligence, lack of administrative interest and low competence in implementation of public welfare scheme in the district.

The Sagar Divisional Commissioner took the action based on an inquiry report submitted to him by the Niwari Collector Jamuna Bhide. The report is based on the “unvoiced inspection and review” of district operations by the district administration.

Officials said that the inspection uncovered serious irregularities of the municipal council’s work. One of the most significant issues raised in the report was town tentacle and sanitation which allegedly inconveniences the people of the town.

The report also pointed out that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana had been vastly mismanaged. Authorities pointed out that the intended beneficiaries had been taking benefits uneargably, as a result of delay and non-effective monitoring. Moreover, a number of development projects that were already approved on administrative and financial matters could not be started on time, it is reported.

The report also highlighted lapses and delay in implementation of the numerous public welfare and departmental works. Upon the basis of these, the Divisional Commissioner had suspended the CMO Mohan Chaurasia.

The action has garnered the district administration’s attention, and is perceived as a clear no-nonsense message about not being lax in government duties. Authorities stressed that officers in charge of public schemes and projects will be held responsible for the delays and inefficiency.

The suspension serves as a demonstration of the state administration’s drive for better governance, fast movement of development projects and good delivery of welfare schemes. The matter is likely to be furthered before the department to ascertain the extent of the responsibility and further action which may be applicable in the case.
