A crackdown on drug crimes by the Dhamtari Police has taken a major turn as they have suggested looking into the properties of Dhamtari’s drug syndicates and seizing them. The proposal has been drafted and submitted to the higher authorities for consideration, with a firmer stand on fighting drugs.
Police officers say they have encountered many drug traffickers throughout the year, and they have been in touch with them, but the individuals have continued to do those things. Usha Dhuri, Karan, and then Zaika Dhuri, who were arrested in drug smuggling, were also among the names mentioned in the proposal. The criminals have allegedly been engaged in some narcotics-related activities for a long period, authorities said.
The Superintendent of Police added that the sale of drugs could not only be against the law but also had a negative impact on society by people getting addicted to taking substances and putting the lives of many people at risk. To make the situation better, the Police have opted for other measures to curb criminal activities, which include the attachment of property against any offenders.
The officials feel that the process of property seizures for criminal purposes could be a serious deterrent for generating fear in the minds of people involved in any kind of criminal activity, such as the smuggling of drugs and other substances. The transfer, expected to serve as a deterrent to recidivism and bolster sentencing, is one of four criminal transfers scheduled in the coming week. The move will help pour cold water on repeat offenses and bolster efforts by law enforcement in the district.
Significantly, it is expected to be the first such case of attachment proceedings of property against criminals in Dhamtari district. The effectiveness will be better known as the process unfolds, and the effect on crimes will be better seen.
