Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly police has initiated an attempt to murder case after a 15-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after a string of banned nylon kite was said to have cut the boy’s neck while he was travelling on a flyover over the Shyamganj locality in the town.
The teenager, Aditya Veer Gangwar, was injured, and is a nephew of the state sugarcane development minister, Sanjay Gangwar. Police said the incident took place early Monday morning when he choked on the biting string, leading to severe injuries and bleeding.
The nylon string, popularly called Chinese manjha is banned because it poses safety risks to pedestrians, motorists and cyclists, officials said. An FIR has been filed against unknown persons involved with the “selling, distributing and using” of the banned material.
The case has been filed under the Attempt to murder provision as the string is very dangerous and can prove life threatening. The teen also had injuries to his hands, authorities said, as he tried to cut the string around his neck.
After the incident, the victim was rushed to a private hospital and is still under medical attention at the private hospital. He was reportedly “severely wounded.
The investigation has been given to the local police authorities and they are caught up in trying to find those to blame for distributing the banned kite string. Inquiries were held at several other sites in Bareilly, too, as part of the raid.
Minister, Sanjay Gangwar, went to meet the injured teenager and expressed concern on the continued availability of banned nylon kite strings even with the ban imposed. He urged on enhancing the enforcement of such measures, and to prevent any further similar occurrences in the future.
