Sunny Deol’s much awaited period time finally has a new name and release date. The first look of Rajkumar Santoshi directorial- Batwara 1947 is unveiled on Tuesday. The poster offers a glimpse into the cast featuring Sunny Deol, alongside Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh. Produced by Amir Khan productions, the movie is set against the turbulent backdrop of the partition era.
The film will hit the screens a day before the Independence day. It will lock horns at the box office with Emraan Hashmi starrer Awarapan 2.
In the newly released poster, Sunny paaji is seen in a fierceful avatar holding a flaming torch with scared Preity Zinta and Khushi Hajare along with Karan Deol behind him. Another glimpse also features Shabana Azmi’s first look. Adding depth to the motion poster is the background music by AR Rahman.
Sharing the first look teaser, the makers wrote, “In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage. Watch #Batwara1947 in theatres from 14th August 2026.”
Batwara 1947 is a period drama set during the historic partition era. The movie draws inspiration from Asghar Wajahat’s renowned play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai’.
While reports make rounds about the name change there is no official information on the reason.
Sunny’s patriotic movie comes after Border 2, which performed well at the box office earlier this year, and also the record-shattering success of Gadar 2.
