Pat Cummins has finally talked about his availability for the IPL 2027. Australia will be having a packed schedule in 2027, filled with Test cricket and ODI World Cup. Amidst this, the skipper has decided to give priority to the test format and the ODI World Cup. Referring to the IPL, he stated he would be taking a decision on it, as the series approaches.
Pat Cummins is the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, as he also went on to lead the team to the playoffs in the IPL 2026. However, the national commitments may mean he may not be available to them in their lineup next season. He was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Mega Auction for IPL 2024 at 18 crore rupees. Since then, he has been an integral part of the team, guiding them to two playoffs.
He, however, relies on the workload management of Australia for the upcoming edition of IPL. The Australian team is having a packed schedule, which will begin with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having five Tests. Following this, Australia and England will be playing each other at the Melbourne Cricket Ground for a 150th anniversary of the Test format.
After this, Australia will also be having a full Ashes tour followed by the ODI World Cup. This will make it quite challenging for Pat Cummins to manage his workload even with the Indian Premier League. Cummins talked about his injury issues, and said that his participation in the next season remains uncertain.
Even though there were suggestions that he may not be playing IPL, Cummins stated that he has not made a final decision. He will evaluate himself “with regards to fitness, workload and commitments to the international circuit” before approaching Sunrisers Hyderabad near the tournament. The Australian skipper also noted that injury and other factors may affect his decision making process and it was too early to make a final decision.
