Gujarat Titans experienced a challenging and turbulent conclusion to their campaign, with their fortunes turning sour after a defeat in the IPL 2026 final match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The team had to endure another setback hours after their defeat in Ahmedabad, when their team bus broke down en route to the hotel.
Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj went on to confirm the incident in an Instagram story, where he is seen sitting with a couple of teammates on the roadside with the heading “Breakdown”. The smoke was reportedly visible inside the car and the players and support staff were forced to evacuate the car as a precaution, according to reports. Luckily, the entire squad didn’t suffer any injuries.
The team spent some time at the road side before an alternate bus was provided to them to take them safely to their hotel in Ahmedabad. The incident further compounded the Gujarat side’s already tough 24 hours.
The problems started before the final, as they found their journey to the final was disrupted. After a Qualifier 2 victory over Rajasthan Royals, the team’s trip to Ahmedabad was hampered by rough weather in the north before the two teams had less than a day to get ready for the title fight. The last delay also affected media activities before the game, such as the captains’ photoshoot.
This did not dampen the spirits of Gujarat Titans as they had reached the final but could not hold the top order due to lack of key batters to convert starts.
The challenging schedule was recognized by the team management, but not excused by logistical problems. RCB had a difficult schedule but it is to their credit for how they have done and Gujarat must take pride in their overall campaign despite the loss, said cricket director Vikram Solanki.
