The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to take a major leap forward in its probe into the death of Twisha Sharma with the initiation of an in-depth crime scene reconstruction involving her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh.
The investigators will also take both accused to their place of residence where Twisha was discovered hanging, to recreate the series of events that led to her death, sources said. The reconstruction exercise seeks to confirm the claims made by Samarth Singh who has said he personally released Twisha from the noose while Giribala Singh untied the noose around her neck.
The CBI will reportedly create a test with an 80 kg dummy to test these claims. Samarth will be asked to explain how he was able to get away with the removal of the body, and Giribala Singh will have to explain how she managed to untie the ligature. It is hoped that the exercise will assist officials to decide whether the statements made by the accused are consistent with the physical evidence and surrounding circumstances of the crime.
The agency will also analyze the tension and strength of the belt that was said to have been used in the hanging. It is expected that experts will evaluate if it would have been able to hold the weight and if the sequence described by the accused is physically possible.
The reconstruction follows a few days after Giribala Singh’s arrest for cancellation of anticipatory bail by Madhya Pradesh High Court. Both Giribala and Samarth Singh are in the custody of CBI till June 2 while the investigations into the killing of Twisha Sharma are continuing.
