Former judges Giribala Singh got the third and final notice from police in Madhya Pradesh to record her statement regarding the death of her daughter in law Twisha Sharma, officials said.

Twisha Sharma’s husband, Giribala Singh, has been booked into a case for alleged dowry harassment. Singh has refused to cooperate with investigators so far and hasn’t appeared for the statement to be recorded, authorities said.

The notice is the final one given to the former judge, said Sanjay Kumar. Singh may face cancellation of anticipatory bail granted in the case if he does not cooperate with the police again, he added, warning that the police would be coming to the sessions court.

Police sources said the new notice was sent via several methods, including postal, and WhatsApp messages, to ensure proper service. Singh was not said to be found at her residence during the previous attempts to issue notices by officials.

Authorities also said that as per the standard practice, women and children are not compelled to go to police stations/courts for statement filing, it’s generally done at their residence.

In the meantime, the Madhya Pradesh government has launched a fresh probe into whether Giribala Singh can continue to serve as chairperson of the consumer court, in the face of allegations in the pending case. A formal circular on administrative review has been reportedly issued.

The case has garnered considerable public interest, and investigators are still probing the details of dowry harassment and Twisha Sharma’s death.
