New Delhi: Ministry of Railways of India’s capital city, New Delhi, has revealed the first glimpse of India’s long-awaited bullet train. This advanced high-speed train is going to run on the newly developed Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) route. Representing a landmark achievement in the country’s transport infrastructure, an official picture highlighting the design of the first-ever train was showcased at Gate No. 4 of the Ministry of Railways.
Building Transport Infrastructure
The 508 km long high-speed rail project seeks to connect the business centers of Maharashtra and Gujarat states through 12 well-planned stops, including Surat, Vadodara and Anand. Running at a maximum design speed of 280 km per hour, the high-speed rail project seeks to reduce the time spent on the 7-hour journey between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just 2 hours.
The revelation comes as a testament to considerable progress made regarding the construction of the MAHSR project. The recent updates include:
Station Development: Foundation work has been successfully completed on eight important stations in Gujarat, while construction is underway in Maharashtra’s Thane and Virar stations.
Civil Infrastructure: The successful erection of 17 river bridges, along with excavation work, which has been completed to almost 91% completion of the essential Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).
Under-Sea Innovation: The commencement of structural boring in the under-sea tunnel portion, where the drilling was successfully done to an extent of 4.8 kilometers from Ghansoli to Shilphata.
This is a landmark development towards the realization of the Make in India concept. The fast trains are being assembled through a joint venture between the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai and BEML Limited in Bengaluru. Through integration of modern safety standards internationally and manufacturing within India, this is a huge leap towards revolutionizing the Indian transit system.
