Turkish Aid Flotilla is expected to reach Israels shore within 48 hours. Flotilla- an element of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), departed Turkey for Gaza on Thursday on its second blockade run after earlier attempts in April were intercepted by Israel in the international waters.
The first Flotilla had for the first time departed from Spain in April but was intercepted taking more than 100 pro-Palestinian activists to Crete and detaining two others in Israel.
Activists on the flotilla departing from the Turkish port of Marmaris said the flotilla needed to reach Gaza to provide much-needed aid to the enclave at a time when global attention had shifted elsewhere, including to the impact of the Iran war.
“It’s very important that what’s happening around the world is not allowing us to see Gaza for the situation as it is,” said Susan Abdullah, a member of the flotilla’s steering committee. “The blockade is still on. The aid is not coming in.”
According to sources, 200 participants from 25 countries are onboard Flotilla including doctors, nurses, engineers, and builders.
While on its way, the Summit has announced that it has detected “unidentified vessels” near its boats. The humanitarian aid flotilla said on X that “naval vessels and speedboats were spotted in front of, behind, and to one side of the fleet.” Organisers have also reported the “movement of unidentified drones and military elements” around the convoy.
Meanwhile, the Global Sumud Land Convoy remained stalled on the outskirts of the Libyan city of Sirte.
The mission, which departed on Friday from Zawiya, includes more than 350 activists from 30 countries, including Türkiye, the UK, and the US. Carrying 50 containers, the convoy’s aims solely to break the Israeli blockade and deliver aid, which remains limited compared to the scale of destruction.
Sources reveal, Israel PM is scheduled to hold an operational meeting on the matter with senior defense officials. A preliminary security consultation was held Sunday.
The Gaza Strip has been under a strict Israeli blockade since the Hamas terrorist organization, which largely runs the strip, committed its October 7 massacre in 2023 in southern Israel, with the depriving the strip of humanitarian aid. Most of Gaza’s more than 2 million people have been displaced, many now living in bombed-out homes and makeshift tents pitched on open ground, roadsides, or atop the ruins of destroyed buildings.
