Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the foreign ministers of member countries on Thursday (May 14, 2026) during the two-day BRICS summit held in New Delhi, the capital of India. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this meeting was part of a pre-scheduled programme. The Prime Minister held a joint interaction with all the delegates at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) at Seva Tirtha. Following the meeting, an official dinner was hosted by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at Bharat Mandapam at 7 pm.
Chairing the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Dr. S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of global peace, security, and diplomacy. He said that recent international conflicts have proven that dialogue and diplomacy are the path to lasting solutions. He said, “Peace and security are at the core of the global order. Amid current uncertainties, the world must move forward with the principles of equality, shared responsibilities, and sustainable development.”
Jaishankar also said that rapidly changing technology is reshaping global thinking and governance. He believes that technological advancements should be harnessed for inclusive development and better governance. He also stressed the need to further strengthen international cooperation against terrorism.
India’s Concerns Over the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea
During the meeting, Dr. Jaishankar also raised the issue of global maritime security. He said that any disruption to vital sea lanes like the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea could impact the global economy.
He said that security of energy supplies and maritime trade is crucial for global economic stability today. Safe and unimpeded sea lanes are the backbone of international trade and energy supplies.
