A medical science student from Nashik has been arrested by Maharashtra Police Tuesday in connection with possible leakage of a ‘guess’ paper in NEET-UG 2026 exam.
Shubham Khairnar, the student, is studying Bachelor of Medical Sciences course at Bhopal. Investigators allege that he got a real hand-written “guess” paper ahead of the NEET examination that took place on May 3 in Nashik. As per police officials, Khairnar subsequently turned it into a pdf and sent it to another individual in Gurugram who then allegedly shared it in many other states.
The Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG), probing the wider network, believes the document may have been from a printing press in Nashik. The operation could be an all across the country racket of paper solvers, impersonators, who have connections with coaching institutes and hostel operators.
About 120 out of 150 questions on the actual question paper were answered correctly in the leaked ‘guess’ paper in biology and chemistry, the police sources said. The document had almost 410 questions with answers and was shared by the NEET candidates in multiple states, such as Rajasthan, Kerala, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand.
Now the authorities are questioning Khairnar to find traces of the leak, they are searching for other suspected people besides the man and to find out how the material was bought or distributed. A casual FIR has been made yet the enquiry is still in progress in various states.
