Authorities on Monday confirmed three new positive cases as last passengers departed from the hantavirus hit cruise ship. The Dutch ship departed Tenerife for the Netherlands where six passengers, including some crew members disembarked the vessel. Amongst the 6, 4 were Australian nationals, 1 Briton and another New Zealander.

Seventeen Filipino crew members of the MV Hondius arrived in the Netherlands on Tuesday morning, according to the Philippine Embassy. Four crew members arrived earlier on Sunday evening.

So far 3 deaths have been reported, two out of which are confirmed to have been caused due to the virus.  Seven cases of hantavirus linked to the MV Hondius have been confirmed, with two others suspected, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Reports are making rounds revealing, 1 American and a French passenger linked to MV Hondius cruise outbreak tested positive in less than a day after deporting the ship. The French woman who developed symptoms during repatriation is quarantining in Madrid after being evacuated from the vessel had also provisionally tested positive for hantavirus on Monday, said Spain’s health ministry.

All 17 US citizens who left the ship are being flown to the US via a State Department airlift, with two passengers traveling in biocontainment units “out of an abundance of caution,” the Department of Health and Human Services said late Sunday in a post on X. Besides the confirmed case, another is showing mild symptoms.
