New Delhi: The Delhi administration’s visionary strategy to transform the city into a greener place is now inching closer to becoming reality with the Draft Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026, which has been praised by all sections of society. In an official statement, it has been reported that the Transport Department received nearly 700 suggestions in just a month after the announcement of the policy draft.

The consultation period for the “EV Policy 2.0,” which seeks to make the national capital a global hub for electric transportation, concluded on May 10. As per the officials, it was one of the most participative processes that has ever taken place in the department, and online portals as well as physical collection centers were employed to accommodate suggestions.

Collective Aspiration for Clean Air

In an address, Minister of Transport Pankaj Kumar Singh has observed that the large number of suggestions shows a collective aspiration to make Delhi pollution-free. A closer look at the total number of submissions reveals that:

General Public (400 responses): Comments were obtained from commuters, RWAs, students, and gig workers emphasizing aspects related to cost effectiveness and charging convenience.

Industry Experts (200 responses): Manufacturers (OEMs), battery recycling companies, and charging point operators contributed valuable technical advice regarding the infrastructure and battery swap system.

Think Tanks, NGOs, Universities (50+ responses): These institutes shared recommendations based on their research work.

According to official information, approximately 200 suggestions have been received from industry and EV sector stakeholders, including charging point operators, battery swapping companies, power supply companies, and fleet aggregators. Additionally, over 50 suggestions have been received from educational societies, NGOs, think tanks, research institutes, universities, environmental groups, and trade associations. Nearly 400 suggestions have been received from ordinary citizens, including vehicle owners, students, RWAs, delivery riders, and gig workers.
