The Madhya Pradesh government has directed the judicial inquiry into the fatal accident involving a cruise ship at Bargi dam in Jabalpur. A one-member inquiry commission headed by retired Justice Sanjay Dwivedi has been set up to probe into the incident in detail. The commission has to submit its report within three months and then a detailed report will be presented before the state government.

The inquiry panel is responsible for determining the precise cause of the accident and who or which officials/individuals is or are at fault. It will also consider the rescue efforts after the incident. The commission will also perform a safety audit on all state’s boats and cruise services. The government will also institute a standard operating procedure to ensure successful operations and maintenance of cruises and boats in order to prevent future tragedies such as this. Quick Response Teams are also being looked at at all major water tourism sites throughout the state.
