A prominent cleric was shot dead in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday, May 5. Unidentified gunmen ambushed the vehicle of Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Mohammad Idris in the Usmanzai area of ​​Charsadda district. He was seriously injured in the attack and died on the way to hospital. Two security guards accompanying Idris were also injured in the attack.

Peshawar police said the attackers opened fire as the cleric was on his way to deliver a Dars-e-Hadith (religious discourse) at Darul Uloom Utmanzai. He suffered serious injuries and died on his way to the district headquarters hospital. His body was later taken to his native village of Turangzai in Charsadda district. Idris was also the Charsadda district chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) and was considered a close associate of party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
