Jabalpur: Following the recovery of two dead bodies the total death toll in the Jabalpur boat tragedy rose to 13. The last bodies to be recovered were those a 5-year boy and a 50-year-old man.
According to officials, the 5-year-old boy is identified as Mayuram with his uncle Kamraj an employee of the ordinance factory in Khamaria. All the bodies have been sent to the government hospital for postmortem, officials added.
According to the CCTV footage acquired by the police, 43 people were on board. Out of which 41 have been identified so far. Of the total 13 passengers reportedly lost their lives.
The State government has launched a probe into the incident and dismissed the crew members. ” The team will submit its report within a month. If the boat’s fitness check was not done, concerned officials will face action,” Madhya Pradesh tourism minister Dharmendra Singh Lodhi said on Saturday.
A three-day long rescue operation was launched by the state government deploying, Indian Army, NDRF, SDRF, the local police and home guard. The boat, 20 years old was operated by the State Tourism Department. Following the incident the state government banned the operation of similar vessels in the state.
