Rajan J Pallan is a veteran of Thrissur politics, who is challenging the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections under the banner of the Indian National Congress under the United Democratic Front (UDF). With a long history of association and connectivity with civic administration, Pallan is now seeking to recapture the Thrissur Assembly constituency in what is emerging to be a close-call, three-cornered fight.

He has stiff competition with Alankode Leelakrishnan of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and Padmaja Venugopal representing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Bearing in mind that he has experience in the field of governance, and he is familiar with local issues, Pallan has added them to his list of strengths.

Pallan is a 63-year old businessman by profession who has made his entry into the political arena through active involvement in the local government. He was the former Mayor of Thrissur Municipal Corporation and has served the civic body since its inception including serving as a councillor. His performance as a leader at the municipal level has enabled him to build a strong political base in the constituency.

According to his election affidavit, Pallan has declared assets worth approximately ₹2.67 crore. Although there is little information about his early life, his career depicts a gradual ascendancy through grassroots politics.

The Thrissur seat has had a chequered political history. The constituency was held by the Congress, which won it in a decisive victory in 2011, before being reclaimed by the Communist Party of India in 2016. Having several good competitors in the game, the 2026 game will be very competitive and closely followed.
