The martyrdom of four courageous members of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) in an IED blast along the Narayanpur-Kanker border gave the solemn atmosphere to Narayanpur. The tragic event happened on Saturday during search operation in the area of police station of Chhotebethiya, which underscores the ever present danger of Naxalite activities in the region.

Officials said that the DRG team had been out on a routine mission to detect and defuse improvised explosive devices that insurgents had planted. As the jawan was on the verge of safely neutralising the IED, it abruptly exploded. Constable Krishna Komra, Inspector Sukhram Vatti and Constable Sanjay Gadhpale were killed on the spot. Constable Parmanand Korram, another injured jawan was airlifted to Raipur to be treated but he later died of his injuries.

The mortal remains of the four martyrs were brought to the police lines in Narayanpur on Sunday, where there was a large gathering of officials, family members and local residents to pay their last regard. The fallen soldiers were given a guard of honour and a ceremonial salute by the security forces, wrapped in the national flag.

The heart ripping event has caused a shaking effect on the Bastar region yet again highlighting the tough situations security personnel are faced with. As the region is gripped with grief, the sacrifice of these brave soldiers has enhanced the spirit of patriotism and respect amongst citizens.
