Exit Polls 2026: With the voting process wrapping up for the final phase of the elections to India’s assembly in 2026 coming to an end on Wednesday, April 29, a wave of exit polls has forecast a tectonic change in the politics of the nation’s eastern and southern states. Projections indicate that there will be a breakthrough for the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal, a third consecutive term for the BJP in Assam, and a come back for the UDF in Kerala.
In Kerala, People’s Pulse has predicted 55-65 seats for Left Democratic Front (LDF), 75-85 for United Democratic Front (UDF) and 0-3 seats for NDA. Whereas, Matriz has predicted 60-65 seats for LDF, 70-75 for UDF and 3-5 seats for NDA. People’s Insight has predicted 58-68 seats for LDF and 66-76 seats for UDF in Kerala. Axis My India has predicted 49-62 seats for LDF and 78-90 seats for UDF.
Most polling firms in West Bengal project a record win for the BJP, marking an end to Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year reign. Polls by Chanakya Strategies and P-MARQ predict that the BJP could end up with 150–175 of the 294 seats in the assembly, crossing the thin majority threshold of 148. But the election still remains “tight”, as People’s Pulse emerges as an odd man out, predicting a comfortable win for TMC with 178-187 seats.
In Assam, the BJP is poised for a third successive term. Axis My India is projecting an overwhelming win for the NDA, which will cross the majority mark of 64 seats by winning 88–100 seats.
Axis My India predicts the NDA government will retain power in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Axis My India predicts the BJP-led alliance will win 16 to 20 seats, while the Congress-led alliance will win 6 to 8 seats. Other parties, including TVK, may win 3 to 7 seats.
People’s Pulse predicts 5 to 6 seats for the NDA in Puducherry, 6 to 8 for the DMK-Congress alliance, 1 to 12 for others, and 10 to 12 for the AINRC. Axis My India’s survey predicts 16 to 20 seats for the NDA, 6 to 8 for the DMK-Congress alliance, 1 to 3 for others, and 2 to 4 for the TVK. This indicates a return to power for the NDA in Puducherry.
