Elon Musk–OpenAI Controversy: The ongoing dispute between Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, and ChatGPT maker OpenAI has reached court. During the court hearing, Elon Musk called himself an idiot. He also leveled serious allegations against OpenAI and Microsoft, demanding US$150 billion in damages.
The Tesla CEO said during the hearing that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman initially assured him that OpenAI would remain a non-profit company. He further said that they were fools to give him free funding to build a startup. He further stated that they provided almost free funding of $38 million, which has now become a company valued at nearly $800 billion.
Musk alleged that he was assured that the organization would remain a non-profit organization. However, it later reneged on its mission and stated that it had become a profit-making tech company. During the court case, OpenAI’s chief lawyer, William Savitt, stated that Musk filed the lawsuit because the company had disobeyed his demands. The lawyer further stated that OpenAI still adheres to its core principles.
The Tesla CEO had a three-year dispute with OpenAI’s co-founder, after which he announced his departure from the startup. He stated that by then, ChatGPT had been publicly launched and had become a major commercial success for OpenAI. Now, Elon Musk is demanding US$150 billion in damages.
