Historically, Marathi films have relied greatly on post-release word-of-mouth marketing to influence box office returns. This trend is being reversed by the highly anticipated historical drama, Raja Shivaji. With a theatrical release date set for May 1, 2026, which marks Maharashtra Day, there has been an unprecedented amount of pre-release excitement for this movie.

Breaking Records Across The Board

With the movie still weeks away from its theatrical release, the film is already creating history by shattering all previous records for advance bookings. At present, the advance booking gross of the film in All India stands at ₹62.86 Lac without considering block seats. Adding the block seats to the total makes the figure a whopping ₹1.1 Crore.

This number not only surpasses the previous record of bookings held by Riteish Deshmukh’s debut directorial venture Ved, with a booking gross of ₹35.50 Lac, but also leaves other top-performing films such as Navra Maza Navsacha 2 (₹28.40 Lac) far behind.

Directed by Riteish Deshmukh and produced by Genelia Deshmukh with the Mumbai Film Company, the movie stars an array of talent with the likes of Sanjay Dutt (Afzal Khan), Abhishek Bachchan, and Vidya Balan playing their parts. The movie has some of the best technical expertise with Santosh Sivan taking care of the cinematography department, while Ajay-Atul gives the film its music score.
