Delhi Capitals suffered a humiliating loss in IPL 2026 when they got outplayed by the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Delhi suffered another blow with the team led by Axar Patel being bundled out with a pathetic score of 75 and were unable to get all their 20 overs. The scoreline at one point was appalling 8 to 6, which led to concerns of the lowest ever total in IPL history.
RCB pursued the low mark of 76 easily, and won the match in seven overs. Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal were not beaten as the duo led the team home safely. The outcome was a stark contrast to the last game in the same location where a 265-run-chase was achieved as a record.
RCB skipper Rajat Patidar acknowledged that he was caught off guard by the pitch conditions saying that it provided a lot of help to fast bowlers. He attributed the powerplay magic of Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar who capitalized on early swing and delivered decisive hits to deconstruct the top order of Delhi.
Patidar attributed the bowling plan as pre-arranged and that the two pacers were restricted to three overs each following initial scalawaggs. Although there was a late revival by the side of Delhi through its players such as David Miller and others, RCB remained in control all the way.
The resounding victory not only rallied Bengaluru in their campaign, but also revealed the struggles that Delhi was going through especially with their weak batting line and failure to adapt to the varying pitch conditions.
