A Madhya Pradesh court has found a hostel superintendent guilty of obtaining a government job on a forged academic certificate and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment with a fine of 27,000. Mohan Singh Kajale, the accused, was convicted of forging a graduation marksheet in order to secure a job in the tribal welfare department. His mother-in-law Bhagwati Bai was also found guilty in the case, and sentenced to six months of imprisonment and a fine of 2,000.

The investigation indicated that Kajale joined the government on the basis of the fake marksheet and served in many capacities in the Khargone district over a period of almost ten years. He was subsequently assigned as a hostel superintendent at the Khalwa area under tribal welfare department. The fraud was revealed when he was serving Chhaigaon Makhan, when a complaint was lodged against him.

An inquiry by the department proved that the job was acquired through forged documents and Kajale was suspended. In December 2020, he was registered by the police and a chargesheet was filed in February 2021. Following almost five years of court action, the court handed its decision April 25, 2026, convicting both accused.

After the verdict, Kajale tried to avoid the press by hiding his face and fleeing in the court. The case raises some grave issues regarding document verification in government recruitment and the effects of fraudulent appointments in the long run.
