Bengaluru: The NIA Special Court has sentenced 7 terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba, including T Naseer, to 7 years of imprisonment in the Bengaluru jail radicalization conspiracy. Along with this, a fine of Rs 48 thousand has also been imposed. Apart from T Naseer, Syed Suhail Khan, Mohammad Umar, Zahid Tabrez, Syed Mudassir Pasha, Mohammad Faisal Rabbani and Salman Khan have been sentenced in the case.
According to the investigating agency, this case involves a terrorist plot linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) that was hatched inside Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. The conspiracy involved identifying, recruiting, training, and radicalizing youth incarcerated in the jail to use them for terrorist activities in India.
The investigation also revealed that the accused were preparing for a terrorist attack in Bengaluru city and were planning to further the banned organization’s anti-India agenda. The case was first registered by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) in July 2023, after weapons, ammunition, and digital devices were recovered from some of the perpetrators. The investigation was later transferred to the NIA.
There was a plan to help the accused of 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts escape.
The NIA investigation uncovered another major conspiracy. A plan was hatched to help T. Naseer escape while being transported from jail to court. Naseer was already an accused in the 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts case. In this case, the NIA filed a charge sheet against a total of 11 accused and one absconding accused, Junaid Ahmed. Of these, Salman Khan was extradited from Rwanda to India. The search for the absconding accused, Junaid Ahmed, is currently ongoing.
