Mumbai: Akshay Kumar’s new horror-comedy film, Bhooth Bangla, which has had an exceptional opening, passed the “litmus test” on the most important fifth day by garnering close to ₹8.50 crore net at the Indian box office, pushing its overall domestic collection to ₹66.50 crore.

It is important to highlight that the movie has succeeded in stopping the month-old theatrical success run of action movie Dhurandhar: The Revenge. While the latter was enjoying its reign for almost a month, the new combination of Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan managed to grab audience attention.

Performance Breakdown
The film opened on Friday with a solid ₹12.25 crore and witnessed a massive surge over the weekend, peaking on Sunday with ₹23 crore.

Day 1 (Friday): ₹12.25 crore

Day 2 (Saturday): ₹19.00 crore

Day 3 (Sunday): ₹23.00 crore

Day 4 (Monday): ₹8.50 crore (Early estimates)

Total Net India: ₹62.75 crore (approx.)

Audience Reaction vs. Critics’ Reviews

While the new movie of Akshay Kumar has been receiving mixed reactions from critics, the common viewer is less interested in the critical analysis of the film. For example, while many critics have noted “plot inconsistencies” and highlighted the cliché plot of the film, average viewers tend to prefer the energetic humor of the movie and the traditional “Priyadarshan style” of comedy.

Even as the IPL 2026 season is currently on, something which usually takes away from the evening shows, the movie has been able to attract large crowds of families. The mixture of supernatural ingredients along with comedy has made it a favorite with groups planning an outing.

There being no other Hindi movie released in the next week, it is expected that the movie will have no trouble in crossing the hundred-crore-mark within a week of its release. The stability of the movie even during a working Monday proves that it has good legs for a theatrical run.
