Rohit Sharma is questionable in the clash of Indian Premier League 2026 between Mumbai Indians and Punjab kings planned in the Wankhede stadium on April 16 following hamstring injury he suffered in the last match against the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The experienced batter was injured when he was batting and was forced to retire injured in the sixth over of the innings of Mumbai Indians. He was in the middle of the incident batting on 19 off 13 deliveries. Although Rohit was first treated by the team physio, he momentarily came back to confront a delivery only to walk away again, looking very uncomfortable. He never came back to the crease again and Mumbai Indians ultimately lost the match by 18 runs.
The 38-year-old now has to go through medical scans to determine the extent of the injury, as per team sources. The outcome of these tests will determine whether he will be available to play the next match against Punjab Kings or not. The franchise is yet to make a formal statement about the severity of the injury and a potential recovery period.
Throughout the game, we could see medical personnel being called to the field to treat Rohit and the game had to be stopped briefly as he was being treated. The fact has also brought about issues with the fans, as he is crucial to the batting line of the Mumbai Indians.
The team management will be cautious with a vital game at hand, before deciding whether or not to play him.
