His gunman and driver were attacked by five people in the Wandoor region of Kerala, according to the police, and Shashi Tharoor was not harmed; however, one of the suspects has been apprehended, and the police are working to capture the rest.

The accident occurred at around 7.30 pm on Friday, close to Chellithode in Thiruvali as per the FIR that was lodged following a complaint by the driver of Shashi Tharoor, Ratheesh KP. It was said that the convoy was transiting a small road when the gunman asked a vehicle that was on the road to accelerate to allow it to pass smoothly. This supposedly resulted in a fight, which soon turned into a physical assault by a group of men.

According to the police authorities, one individual was arrested towards the end of the night on Friday and that the other suspects have been recognized. It was announced that more arrests are imminent as the investigation continues.

The accident is a timely blow since Tharoor has been on the road stumping on behalf of Indian National Congress just before the Kerala Assembly elections to be held on April 9. The state will vote in its 140-member assembly with the counting of votes to begin May 4, along with the outcome of other states such as Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal.

The police have promised to deal harshly with the perpetrators of the act, and political leaders are likely to get security reviewed during the election period due to the incident.
