On Thursday, notices were given by the Karnataka High Court to the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, the Lokayukta police and the Enforcement Directorate in relation to a petition by the MUDA land allotment case.
Justice S Sunil Dutt Yadav issued the notices in response to a plea submitted by an activist Snehamayi Krishna who was the original complainant in the case. The petition is challenging a January 28 directive of a special court in Bengaluru that had approved a report of the Lokayukta police that it lacked enough evidences to continue with the case against Siddaramaiah, his wife B M Parvathi and two others.
The case is centered on the so-called anomalies in land allotments of MUDA. The complainant has leveled charges against Siddaramaiah that he abused his official post to get unearned favors to his wife. The allegations show that Parvathi was given much more compensation via 14 developed plots in exchange with a disputed land parcel, which was much more than it should be.
The Karnataka Governor had sanctioned to prosecute Siddaramaiah, which was later challenged and upheld by the high court. The Lokayukta police however found out that there was no adequate evidence to prove the corruption allegations against the main suspects.
The petitioner has now claimed that the special court did not properly evaluate how serious the allegations were and had placed a lot of reliance on the investigation report. He has called on the high court inquiring it to direct a new investigation by some other agency which might be under judicial guidance citing discrepancies in the previous decision.
