New Delhi: Major changes are now being prepared to improve the educational level in the primary schools of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The corporation has planned to equip 250 primary schools with modern facilities in the next one year. Under this plan, upgraded smart classrooms, modern boards and better infrastructure will be developed in the schools, so that students can get a better learning environment.

This decision was taken in the meeting of the Education Committee of MCD held on Wednesday. Committee Chairman Yogesh Verma, Vice Chairman Amit Kharkhari, Additional Commissioner Sanjeev Mittal, Director of Education Department Nikhil Tiwari along with committee members and senior officials were present in the meeting.

MCD Education Committee Chairman Yogesh Verma said that a ‘Nigam Shri School’ will be set up in every ward. 250 Nigam Shri Schools will be developed in a total of 250 wards. For this, the existing Nigam schools will be upgraded. He informed that in the first phase of this scheme, under the academic session 2026-27, 24 primary schools will be converted into ‘Nigam Shri Schools’. Under this scheme, facilities like smart classrooms, modern boards, better infrastructure will be developed in the schools, so that the students can get a modern and better learning environment.

These schools will be modelled on the lines of PM SHRI Schools and CM SHRI Schools. CSR funds and other sources will be used for the development work. The plan has received formal approval in the Education Committee meeting. The Corporation has released an amount of approximately Rs 45 crore for the overall improvement of the schools. This will be used for repairs, maintenance of toilets and improving other basic facilities.

MCD Education Committee Chairman Yogesh Verma said that 250 Nigam Shri schools will be set up in 250 wards. Existing schools will be upgraded and made model schools. He said that two schools each have been selected in all 12 zones of MCD in the first phase. A total of 24 primary schools will be developed as ‘Nigam Shri Schools’. Admissions in these schools will begin from the new academic session starting in April.

A modern and better environment will be created for the students in the Corporation SHRI Schools, which includes Smart Boards in all the classrooms, Digital Learning System, Better infrastructure and classroom environment Clean and organized toilets and clean water system Rich library and advanced educational facilities Security system and better furniture Sports activities and cultural programs Green infrastructure These schools will be developed on the lines of PM SHRI Schools and CM SHRI Schools.
