Sonia Gandhi is stable, under strict medical care at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, an official statement issued concerning the same on Wednesday. The elderly leader of the congress was hospitalized one day ago after developing breathing problems.

Physicians who treated her reported that she is going through additional tests to verify the existence of any stomach and urinary tract infections. She has been taking antibiotics and her condition is closely monitored by a team of specialists. The hospital authorities also reported that the probable cause of her admission was a slight aggravation of her bronchial asthma resulting out of a combined effect of cold weather and increased levels of pollution in Delhi, which made the patient admitted on precautionary basis.

Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, cancelled the planned visit to Kerala where he was to start his election campaign by a large rally at Kozhikode. Without Siddiqui, the leader of the senior Congress party, Mallikarjun Kharge, was sent to the state to continue with the party campaign.

According to sources, Sonia Gandhi had had some related health problems in the past and was even taken into observation over stomach related problems. But with doctors reassuring her that she is stable and that her condition is under control as well.

Congress party and other supporters in the country have been concerned besides hoping that she recovers quickly since medical teams are keeping close eye on her.
