The United Arab Emirates opened its airspace on Tuesday after a temporary but full closure due to have alleged missile and drone attacks launched by Iran. The government had closed the site temporarily to prevent possible attacks due to the growing tensions in the region.
The General Civil Aviation Authority said that the decision to suspend flight operations was arrived at after an elaborate evaluation of the security and operational risks, along with the cooperation of concerned agencies. The closure that took almost two hours was termed as a special measure that would guarantee the safety of passengers and crew as well as national airspace.
This situation calmed down soon, the normal flight operations were restored. Nevertheless, the officials assured that real-time surveillance is still going on to guarantee safety of aviation since the situation in the region remains tensed.
In the process, people living in Dubai were sending out missile warning messages, and bombs were reported to be audible as air-defence measures coped with incoming attacks. In a similar incident, a fire, which broke out at an oil storage facility in the Gulf of Oman, was also due to a drone strike in Fujairah. Luckily, there were no casualties.
The events underscore the increasing security issue in the area as law enforcement agencies are on the edge to counter any additional threats as they continue to keep critical infrastructure and air transport security intact.
