The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and potential hailstorms will take place in the Western Himalayan region and the plains in the adjacent areas in the next several days. A new Western Disturbance is taking place over northwest India and this disturbance is likely to cause extensive rain and stormy atmosphere in the region beginning March 18.

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra claims that the present western unrest is already affecting regions of northwest India and the result is precipitation and thunderstorms. He had also indicated that a second disruption is soon likely to come which might carry a longer period of unwarranted weather. This alteration of circumstances follows a few weeks of abnormally warm weather in most regions of the country. Due to the rain and the cloud cover, the temperatures in some of the northern areas shall briefly drop.

They have also been warned that there will be a lot of rainfall activity in the northeast states through the IMD. This will be isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (Assam) on Monday, and heavy showers will persist during the day (Tuesday). It is also predicted that similar rainfall conditions will be experienced in Arunachal Pradesh up to Tuesday, and Mizoram will also have isolated heavy rain on Monday.

According to weather authorities, the weather system is expected to decrease the maximum temperatures in the northwest of India by approximately 3-5 o C in the next two days. Nevertheless, the temperatures will increase slowly again in the next three days with the system weakening, and this increase is 35 C.

During the previous day, heatwave was reported in isolated places in Vidarbha and some of Odisha. In the meantime, Assam experienced heavy rainfall of 7 to 20 cm and Arunachal Pradesh experienced heavy rainfall of 7 to 11 cm with hailstorms being reported in isolated areas of Assam and Mizoram.
