Raipur. The issue of paddy procurement from over 44,000 registered farmers in the Bastar division resonated in the Assembly. On the sixth day of the budget session, Bastar Congress MLA Lakheshwar Baghel and Konta Congress MLA Kawasi Lakhma alleged that paddy procurement from over 44,000 farmers in Bastar was unsuccessful.

Congress members asked during Question Hour why paddy procurement hadn’t been successful. The government responded that farmers who failed to reach procurement centers to sell their paddy were not being purchased.

More paddy has been purchased than during the Congress regime.

Food Minister Dayaldas Baghel stated that more paddy has been purchased in Bastar than during the Congress regime. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel asked how many farmers’ land had been surrendered. Minister Dayaldas replied that this was not part of the original question and therefore did not arise.
