A joint contingent of the Indian Armed Forces has arrived in the Indian Ocean island nation of Seychelles. The Indian contingent is participating in a joint military exercise, “Lamitie 2026,” with the Seychelles Defence Forces. The exercise is being conducted at the Seychelles Defence Academy from March 9 to 20.

During the exercise, Indian and Seychelles troops will jointly train, plan various military missions, and conduct various tactical maneuvers. It will include a variety of combat operations to neutralize potential threats in a semi-urban environment.

This exercise is held every two years and has been regularly held in the Seychelles since 2001. This year marks the eleventh edition of this important exercise. The use of new-generation military equipment and modern technology will also be practiced. The word “Lamitie” is Creole, meaning friendship.

This exercise is conducted with the aim of establishing better coordination between the armies of the two countries. Strengthening defense cooperation between India and Seychelles is a key focus for both sides. Furthermore, according to defense experts, this exercise holds special significance because for the first time, all three Indian armed forces are participating in it. The Indian military contingent includes personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. All of them are participating in this exercise together.

The main objective of this joint military exercise is to strengthen coordination, cooperation, and joint operational capabilities between the armies of the two countries. During the exercise, special emphasis will be placed on training related to operations in semi-urban areas. According to the Ministry of Defense, the Indian military contingent primarily consists of soldiers from the Assam Regiment. In addition, the Indian Navy warship INS Trikand and the Indian Air Force heavy transport aircraft C-130 are also participating in the exercise.

Additionally, efforts will be made to develop better coordination between the two armies during peacekeeping operations. This joint military exercise, which will last approximately twelve days, will include activities such as field training, tactical discussions, case studies, lectures, and demonstrations. The final phase of the exercise will consist of a two-day final joint exercise, which will test all the skills and tactics learned so far.
