Amritsar: To beef up security and prevent any untoward incidents, the administration has taken a major decision. Flying drones, cameras, or other small aerial devices is now completely banned around Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport.
Amritsar Additional District Magistrate Mr. Rupinder Pal Singh has issued these orders in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS), 2023.
Airport and Rajasansi area declared ‘no drone zone’
According to directives issued by the administration, the areas of the airport, Ajnala Road, and Rajasansi in the rural area of Amritsar have been declared “no drone zones.” Officials argue that Amritsar Airport experiences heavy domestic and international flight traffic day and night. This area is extremely sensitive from a security perspective, so any negligence here could pose a major threat.
The special warning order for marriage palaces and hotels clearly states that many hotels and marriage palaces are located near the airport. People often use drone cameras to videotape weddings or other events. The administration fears that under the guise of such events, some anti-social elements may use drones for malicious purposes, which could prove fatal to aircraft and national security.
